Dr Fereshteh Pourkazemi

PhD, MSc, Bsc

Principal Physiotherapist

I am a musculoskeletal physiotherapist with over 15 years of practice, teaching and research in this field. In addition to management and treatment of common musculoskeletal issues, I focus on musculoskeletal persistent pain. I am also a passionate artist, researcher, and educator working to bring the Arts, Health and Education together and address different aspects of human pain with a holistic view of its complexities.

My unique clinical approach is to enable patients to understand their pain, by combining the visual arts and education, and empowering patients to return to their desired physical activities.

As part of my pain management skills, I use many different evidence-based approaches including, but not limited to, Cognitive Functional Therapy, Graded Motor Imagery, the concept of DIMs and SIMs (Dangers in Me/Safeties in Me), and gradual exposure to exercise using individualised Pilates program. In my recent research, I’ve been investigating the impacts of visual arts on pain and found the approach “Paint the Pain”, as I call it, a very beneficial addition to the common treatments. These approaches are decided upon, and based on a comprehensive assessment (during the first session) and your goals.

I currently consult face to face, 1-2 days per week and my practice sits within the Modern Pilates Studio where I review complex musculoskeletal pain disorders and work closely with all the staff to ensure the highest level of clinical care is provided within the practice.
